Jailing of file sharing quartet will do little to quell the spread of free music

The jailing today of the four men behind The Pirate Bay (TPB), the world’s most high-profile file-sharing website, will do little to reverse the long term damaging effects that file sharing has had on the music industry in recent years.
The consciousness of too many now, particularly young people, is that it is ok to download music from file sharing sites for free, thereby depriving the songwriters of income for their works.
At the same time, this case also reinforces the need for the music industry to adjust more to the changing tastes of music lovers in how they access music. Only through embracing change and new audience habits will music survive. The industry will ultimately become stronger as a result.

Glocal – a new music scene emerges

Glocal Scene emerged as a response to the challenges and prejudices within the music industry faced by musicians from certain geographical areas, through the creation of a ‘glocal music scene’ through bringing together local music scenes from around the world.
Glocal Scene has provided artists with a base, helping them book tours, sell their music, and also provide a place for music lovers to talk about new music. They have produced an excellent documentary too which pieces together the experiences of emerging artists around the world on the ‘glocal scene’. Check their website for more info
